The report cards continue today as we turn our attention to Islander defenseman Travis Hamonic. Noel and I are hard but fair graders as we have given Thomas Greiss and Nick Leddy season grades of B minus. I'm not going to lie, this one is not going to be pretty.

Travis Hamonic is a really really nice guy and we all know the work he does for his charity. Like my director on Sportscenter used to say, "look my mother is a wonderful person but I don't want her running camera three at 2am." We all know how great a person Travis is but this is a results oriented league and in my opinion, Hamonic was the single most disappointing Islander in the 2016/2017 season.

We all know what happened last year with the trade request and the joy the fanbase felt when Travis rescinded that trade. However Hamonic was so bad this year I actually thought he wanted to be traded again.

Travis played in only forty nine games this year as he registered three goals and eleven assists. During that span he was an appalling minus twenty one. Look I know that plus minus is not a perfect stat but if you dig deeper his advanced metric were bad... all-time bad... like I'm talking Bruno Gervais, Chris Campoli, Andy Sutton awful. Sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. There is simply no way to spin this.

Hammer's health continues to be a problem as he can't stay on the ice. The problem with Travis is this, He does not have any offense instincts and he is not going to contribute many points. He isn't leading a breakout and his outlet passes were poor at best. Therefore this greatly magnifies his atrocious play in his own end. This team was actually significantly better when he was not in the lineup. Travis is a really nice standard definition television in a HD world.

I'm not sure what the future holds for Hamonic and the Islanders. With Ryan Pulock, Adam Pelech, Devon Toews and Parker Wotherspoon pushing for playing time, some of these dmen will soon be expendable.

I have to be honest with myself on this grade. I don't want to hear excuses about injuries. Yes they are a factor, but you have to overcome them and if you are injured and hurting your team by playing through it, well that doesn't help. In the end there is no other way around this, my grade for Travis Hamonic has to be a F. We will see you in summer school hammer.
