The Stars management failed to address their goaltending issues, and by doing so, punting a prime-year of Seguin/Benn. They looked completely inept when a discounted Ben Bishop somehow ended up in Los Angels.
Say what you want about those terrible decision, but for one night at least Keri Lehtonen made it seem like the goaltending in Texas is just fine.
Lehtonen made 42 saves and the Capitals, for once, failed to score a half-doz. Holtby, usually dependable, had an off night and the Capitals lost.
But, they have a 100% chance of making the Playoffs, so who cares?
The biggest problem with the loss was the end of the spectacular 15 game home-winning streak.
That was actually the first time the Caps lost at home this year.
Here's a crazy stat: Braydon Holtby has never beaten the Stars.
Had I known that going in, I wouldn't have drafted him as my DFS goalie last night. Had I had a goalie who didn't get negative points, I would have won a few bucks.
As it was, I won back all but 30 cents of the $2.50 I bet. It was a fun night anyways.
The next thing up as the schedule winds down for the NHL's best team is a trip to California. Thursday it's San Jose in a battle of two of the best the NHL has to offer.
Too bad it's just an exhibition game at this point. If we're lucky it will be a Final preview.
