Draft day is here.

New GM Ray Shero will finally get to make his first big mark on the Devils - in terms of player personnel - with the team's 1st pick.

Shero hasn't ruled out the possibility of moving down but if the Devils stay where they are I think Pavel Zacha and Mathew Barzal will be the two key players they'll consider.

I know the team is very high on Mitch Marner but it is very unlikely he makes it to 6th overall.

Trading up doesn't appear to be a realistic possibility given the rumored price tags. New Jersey isn't in a position where they can package several quality assets for one.

They could potentially get their hands on another 1st later in the round if someone is slipping, though. They have plenty of good, young blue liners and also have two picks in the top half of the 2nd round that they could package.

Back to New Jersey's 1st pick, though. It's possible they could move down a couple slots and still get Zacha or Barzal, which is why I think that's something they are considering.

Given New Jersey's love of gritty two-way forwards some have speculated Lawson Crouse could end up in New Jersey but my understanding is they are higher on both Zacha and Barzal, both of whom will almost certainly be there at 6th overall.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out when all is said and done.
