Tragedy struck the Boston Bruins this week, as Dobro Lucic, the father of Boston top-liner
Milan Lucic, died unexpectedly, prompting a statement from the 26-year-old forward via the Bruins.
"I learned on Wednesday, April 22 that my father passed away unexpectedly in Vancouver,” Lucic said in the statement that went out today. “My family and I am very grateful for the outpouring of support from the hockey community, friends and fans from around the world.
“We kindly ask everyone to respect our privacy during this difficult and sad time."
Originally drafted by the Black and Gold with the 50th overall pick in 2006 (the pick the Bruins got in the Sergei Samsonov to Edmonton trade), Lucic has spent his entire NHL career in Boston, scoring 139 goals and totaling 342 points in 566 NHL games (and 61 points in 96 career playoff games).
Upon hearing the news, B’s president Cam Neely released a statement as well.
"On behalf of the Jacobs family and the entire Boston Bruins organization I would like to express our deepest condolences to Milan and his family on the passing of his father, Dobro,” said Neely. “Our thoughts will be with the Lucic family during this time, and we will be here to offer them support in any way that we can."
This is a horrible story for the Lucic family. My thoughts and prayers go out to them during this time.
