What Can the San Jose Sharks Expect From Tye McGinn?

It's been an odd few days for fans of the San Jose Sharks. From the re-signing of Mike Brown to the free agent signing of John Scott, there hasn't been a lot to cheer about since the calendar flipped to July.

Tye McGinn doesn't change that feeling by himself, but it shows that general manager Doug Wilson hasn't gone off the rails entirely with his vision. He paid a high price to bring in the unproven forward, but McGinn brings something to the table that Scott does not.

Talent.

While Scott is there to break ankles and end careers, McGinn seems to have a nice scoring touch to go along with the hard-nosed style he brings to the ice. The 23-year-old forward scored 20 goals and added 15 assists in 54 at the AHL level last year. Wilson likely likes the fact that the 6'2", 210-pound Ontario native also had 62 PIMs as well.

Wilson had this to say about the newest member of the San Jose Sharks, as per Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News:

Tye is a hard working player who plays an honest game. We're excited to add him to our group of young forwards.

McGinn isn't a barn burner by any means, but he could potentially add a scoring element to San Jose's bottom-six. The feeling in Philadelphia is that the Flyers never really gave him a fair shake, and that he could have more upside than the organization realized.

Tye's brother Jamie (a former Shark in his own right) seems to be under the impression that the newest Sharks forward is pretty amped to be coming to California.

The "#hesveryexcitedfans" gives it away, right? Again, a third-round selection isn't an asset to scoff at, but McGinn fits in with the new mentality with the Sharks and can at least skate backwards, so that's a plus over what's gone on over the last two days in San Jose.
