Phoenix Coyotes forward Brett MacLean suffered a cardiac emergency last night during a hockey game in Owen Sound, Ont. Per a statement from Coyotes' general manager Don Maloney, MacLean received CPR at the rink and was rushed to a local hospital. Later, he was transferred by ambulance to a cardiac intensive care unit at University Hospital in London, Ont.

No further information is available about the player's condition at this time. At a time of year when everyone's thoughts are consumed by free agency and megabucks contracts, something like is a stark reminder of just how fragile life itself can be.

The thoughts and prayers of the entire HockeyBuzz staff go out to MacLean and his family.
