Set-Top Boxes are "all the rage" this holiday season and fortunately for us the NHL is all over this trending technology bringing live streaming games, archived games, and highlights along with content and news feeds, to three set-top boxes:

The Roku Box, The Boxee Box, and the PlayStation 3.

And let me tell you....NHL GameCenter ROCKS. If you are buying for an NHL fan, you simply can't get a better gift for them than a GameCenter Subscription...It is $20.99 a month ($169 for the whole season) but once you buy your subscription the NHL allows you to view the content online, on any of these set-top boxes, or soon your iPad....(Unofficial scoop, word from my NHL contacts, is the iPad app, which is amazing already, will have streaming live video "around the Holidays.")

Back to the set-top boxes...

I have all three Boxes and have done detailed videos showing you the differences and a walkthrough of the NHL GameCenter Apps on each (There are big differences in features from platform to platform.)

Benefit of all three boxes...

*Streaming of up to 1080p HD Content using only your current Wifi connection.
*No additional fees for the box.
*Easier than hooking your computer up to your TV.
*Many Third Party Applications which can replace your cable TV (with more coming all the time.)

Today I present to you Part 1 in a three part series as I review the NHL GameCenter experience on the Roku Box.

Roku's Pro's

1. Cost.
At $59.99 to $99.99 this box is pretty much the most value of any gadget ever.

2. Netflix Streaming.

3. Hulu Plus Streaming.

4. Amazon Video on Demand.

Roku's Cons

1. NHL GameCenter Interface less features than Boxee or PlayStation 3.

2. You won't have enough time to watch the vintage games you will want to see...

Introducing my first Video Podcast Series: Ek's Tech...

Let's face it. We love sports and we love gadgets, so I am really excited about this...Today I am launching a new video podcast series called "Ek's Tech" in which I will review the latest technologies guaranteed to make every hockey fan's life better. If there is a technology or a gadget out there you would like to see reviewed put it in the comments or email me eklund (at) hockeybuzz (dot) com and put "Ek's Tech" in the subject line...

So today..GameCenter on the Roku Box...coming next Gamecenter on The Boxee Box and the Sony PlayStation 3...

Watch and Enjoy!
