Well Of Course They Did... |

It mighthave been a goal. The ruling that it was kicked in seems a little suspect due to the fact that there was a mass of bodies around the net with Matt Stajan and it looked like his feet might have actually been pushed in by a defender but he did appear to look down and there's nothing you can do about the call so move on.
Or you could always just go into a shell for the next 45 minutes and hope for the best...
Sadly the Flames fragile psyche left them to go with the second option and shockingly they were once again unable to get that sought-after second victory to turn a must win singular game into the beginnings of a streak.
Granted, the Flames dominated in the last 7 minutes or so but once again it was a case of too little, too late as they lost yet another 1 goal game and now are a sitting duck and will likely be at the bottom of the conference in the near future as the Oilers remain just one point back but now have 2 games in hand. More frustrating might be the fact that although the Flames are technically just a scant 8 points in arrears of second place in their conference every team in the West holds at least one game in hand over the Flames with the exception of the Hawks and Ducks and most have at least two.
They could sure use some scoring! So it's timely that one of their offensive stars will likely be suspended at some point today for his "spear" on Drew Doughty. Do I believe Dew embellished it a little? Yep. Do I wonder where the call was that would have been the reason Rene Bourque was flat on his face and angry enough to commit the infraction? Undoubtedly! But that's no excuse for spearing another player. It's unacceptable and he should be suspended. It may sound trite, but if you're that mad throw a punch at Doughty with the glove on and take the roughing penalty and avoid the meeting with Mr. Campbell. Now he'll have to wait on the league disciplinarian's decision on whether he can play tonight and the Flames chances of getting a win likely get a little worse.
In one goal games this season the Flames are now just 4-7-2. That's not helping their push to be a playoff team. In their last 8 games the Flames have alternated wins and losses. At least that trend bodes well for tonight. Yes the Kings goals were the result of fortunate bounces and maybe you don't think they deserved them. But they did score and they took advantage of their chances and played a full 60 minutes. It's a lesson the Flames would do well to pay attention to.
Have a great day!
