First, what was Carbonneau thinking

On O'Byrne...

Stuff Happens. A mistake that leads to a goal is a mistake that leads to a goal. Almost every goal has a few of them. O'Byrne's was embarrassing, but that's all. It stinks, but it is excusable. For Carbonneau to not put the young defenseman right back out there is inexcusable. For the fans to chant his name mocking him is inexusable. What is Guy thinking selling this kid down the river like this? O'Byrne didn't lose this game.The Habs blew a 3-1 lead, and several powerplay opportunities. The shootout guys didn't get it done. Price let in 2 of 3. Teams lose together and the coach has make that known by his actions.

* How good are the Canucks? To win that game against Detroit. The first one back after a long road trip where they lost Luongo and they beat the RED WINGS? Amazing.

* Zherdev is a scary, scary player right now. Between Zherdev and Dubinsky the future is now. What we are seeing is a key part of the Cup Winning Formula. Teams that win Cups are generally led by established stars early and then a few young kids start to take over..

*Boy that Florida/Carolina game was a clinic on "how not to cover guys down low" by both teams.

*I really like Tuomo Ruutu on Carolina. I have been a long-time believer in this guy and it is fun to to watch him playing at this level and being in a system that allows him to thrive.

*Teemu Selanne...11 Power Play Goals already?

* CLUTTERBUCK CLUTTERBUCK! wow!

*Jeff Carter. Leads the NHL in goals...Confidence beyond belief right now. There is a big write-in campaign going on for Carter for the All-Star game....But how about 10 goals from Knuble?

*As hard as people have been on Turco the defense in front of him is atrocious. Look at the two Knuble goals. The first one Trevor Daley just lets Knuble walk in to the point where he pretty much runs over Turco while Daley just looks at it. On the winning goal, 3 players cover Gagne and Modano half-heartedly back checks Knuble.

*Last year I got to watch the Capitals alot and in an exciting seven game playoff series. This is a team that has potentially the best line in the NHL in Ovechkin-Semin-Backstrom, but the scary guy on this team. the player that really stirs the drink and scares you when you play them is Mike Green. Mike Green being hurt is why this team has struggled on this road trip.

*I am so convinced that Jose Theodore's issues are purely mental. He consistently makes some of the best saves in the NHL and along with Tim Thomas is as tough to beat down low as it gets. Last night his glove save on a Wild 2-0 was just superb and shows that when he zones in he is phenomenal. The problem is goaltending becomes much more of a concentration game.

*Richard Park may be one of the most underrated players in the NHL. The ease at which he beat Price in the shootout was very telling towards the future he still has on Long Island.

RUMOURS SO FAR TODAY....

There is little doubt that Burke's contract is getting close and with that come rumours of much bigger deals than the one we saw yesterday. It is safe to say that the Leafs we see right now are not the Leafs we will see next October..

The Canadiens are doing everything they can to improve on the their power play. Several teams are talking to the Habs including possibly the LA Kings TOm Preissing.

The Flames are also getting more and more interest in Cory Sarich. Possibly from Boston.
