Malik Rumor Returns

Last week, I shot down an obscure internet report that I had stumbled upon on another hockey web site where a poster claimed that a friend of a friend who is friends with former Ranger Marek Malik said they had spoken to him and that he was close to signing a 1-year deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning. I wrote it off to the consistent inconsistency of the, "My friend knows (so-and-so) and he is going to sign with (such-and-such)" claims. Further, it didn't have legs anywhere else in legit circles that I communicate with. Finally, I wondered aloud who would then be pushed out from the current crop of Lightning defensemen if Malik, or any other veteran d-man, were to be brought in.

While I'm still wondering about the last part, it indeed appears that Marek Malik is headed to the Tampa Bay Lightning in some capacity. Damian Cristodero of The St. Pete Times reported as much in his blog today. Have a look ... and I'll see if I can't get further word on this some time this evening.

The ever-evolving defense of your Tampa Bay Lightning ...
