Finnish goaltender Leevi Merilainen is the only pending restricted free agent goaltender for the Ottawa Senators this summer. The Oulu native was selected 71st overall in the third round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft to round out maybe the best draft of the Pierre Dorion regime. The goalie was at the conclusion of his entry-level contract that was signed in 2021.
Merilainen is represented by Jerry Buckley of Buckley Sports Management; who also represents Tyler Boucher on the Senators. His biggest NHL star under management is Sabres' forward Tage Thompson. Buckley also represents Joey Daccord, a former Senators' goalie that was extended mid-season by the Seattle Kraken.
The backup position is easily his with Forsberg coming off the books. I see a short term prove it deal at 2 years, $4M.
