After Yzerman’s Press Conference media speculation (and some of you as well) seem to aligned on Patrick Kane. The very fortunate signing for Part of Detroit’s season looks to be moving on. It also looks like Sprong is now considered to be potentially priced out of Detroit’s lineup and Fischer may be moving on as well.

In terms of talent in the system, Berggren and Johansson were both mentioned by Yzerman as potentials for next year’s roster. The link above has an implied asterisk by Berggren’s name as more blogs are mentioning that JB was “dangled” in multiple trade scenarios. As far as I’ve heard, that could go all the way back to the draft. There were only 2 written reports that JB had turned down extensions and many weren’t impressed with the sources. It’s wait and see time. I haven’t heard anything about Johansson in terms of trade so that may be a legitimate call up.

As at least one of you mentioned, Sandin-Pellikka seems destined for one more overseas campaign. The concern, at this point, is that he remains unsigned. Usually a non collegiate player (especially a first rounder) is tied up by this point under Yzerman’s watch. ASP gained some notoriety even amongst Vancouver blogs/reports when the team was having a bit of a rough run.

For free agents, it sounds like Perron wants to work something out and if Sprong is set to head out of town that probably makes sense. The goal tending situation could be identical with Reimer being a candidate for a short term deal.

If Berggren and the organization found common ground, it could make sense to see Debrincat, Larkin and Raymond on a line with Perron, Compher and JB. That would imply Copp and Rasmussen back together on the third line with (fill in the blank, maybe Veleno?)

Personally, I’d like to see a veteran RD and wrote about that yesterday. I’d liked a suggesting regarding Murphy but just read that it sounds like a nagging injury cut his season in half after he’d had surgery for a different injury. If the expectation is for him to play a physical game to complement Edvinsson’s offensive side it could be an invitation to another year of injury.

Tyler Johnson will be available, not the TJ of 5 years ago that used to give Detroit fits, but potentially a bottom line/pk player who obviously knows Yzerman and has Michigan ties. Nothing exciting, just spitballing.

Before Rasmussen went down with injury the line of he, Copp and Fischer seemed to be able to find some success as a depth/checking line. Fischer potentially departing and Copp’s $ bring back to the forefront some issues that may need to be addressed. It may be a role they’re hope Mazur can fill. Kasper was getting more praise as the season ran on, so there may be some internal shuffling for depth roles.

One final thought, the decentralized draft. Will an altered format lessen the opportunities and some of those “draft floor conversations” that lead to some of the deals made? It will be interesting to see. There may be more than one team where players want a change of scenery but those conversations may have to be had in the days leading up to the draft.
