Claws and Swords: Cats vs Sabres

After a stretch of bad play, the Panthers are finishing their season strong. They are coming off back-to-back shutouts heading into today’s contest against the Buffalo Sabres.

The Sabres look to be heading in the right direction the past couple seasons, though they seem to have taken a bit of a step back this season.

As Litter Box Cats point out:

While they are no longer even on the periphery of the playoff picture, the Sabres played the spoiler role by beating the Washington Capitals 4-2 on home ice on Thursday. After playing the Panthers, Buffalo will close out the regular season against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday. Alex Tuch leads the club in scoring with 59 points. The Sabres haven’t been to the postseason since 2011-12 season, when they lost to Philadelphia in the opening round.”

Florida couldn’t ask for a better schedule heading into the playoffs. Of their last four games, three of them are against non-playoff teams. Of those three, the Panthers have shut out two of them (OTT & CBJ). We’ll see what they can do against BUF today…

The way I see it, these three games were/are confidence boosters to help get their game back to where it should be. Then they will play the last game of the regular season against the Leafs (a playoff team), which should be a great game to set them up for the first round of the postseason.
