Summary:
Raymond’s game opening tally was beautiful. (You can see below). Unfortunately Detroit showed some rust and couldn’t cash in on 7 minutes of power play time in the second (5 of which was a major) and ex Wing Hronek scored as he jumped out of the penalty box. All of a sudden it went from 1-0 to 3-1 VAN after a 2nd period gone wrong. Then, the comeback.
Grand Rapids has made a string of come backs, and Detroit wanted to get in on the fun. Sprong and Rasmussen got the score tied in the third. Then, a penalty shot for Walman in overtime seals a win. The team came back out in the third and made it happen against a Vancouver team with plenty of swagger and a season that has shaken their division up. Vancouver has a lot to like and could easily be one of the last two, if not last one, standing in the West this post season.
Detroit is a sports city. These games, the Lions post season, U of M’s championship. All of it has helped fans come together with something better to talk about than the endless stream of pain on TV any more. Having this be Kid’s day made it that much better. Some darn good pipes for the in ring announcing.
It was a long stretch away but what a fun return! See you in the comments.
Detroit First Period goals:
Just 45 seconds in, Raymond got the puck from Petry in his own zone and sent it to Perron. Perron sent it right back and Raymond skated in on the left, drove the net, and froze the goalie as he found an empty net scoring the first of the game. 1-0 DET
*JV with a big step up after Lyon stumble, saving a goal then had a huge hit at the other end of the ice.
Shots: 11-9 DET
Score: 1-0 DET
Detroit Red Wings Second Period goals:
**7 minutes of power play and Detroit can’t score. Hronek jumps out of the box and scores at the end of his 2 minute minor. Wings definitely look rusty in period 2. 2-1 VAN
Detroit gives up a 3rd goal on Vancouver’s 15th shot of the game. Lyon may need to be pulled. D coverage didn’t help, and 2 of the 3 were on the defense but sometimes the reset button can make a difference in game.
Shots: 20-18 VAN
Score: 3-1 VAN
Third Period Detroit goals
At 2:34 Sprong got Wings within 1 on the power play. Beautiful pass from Kane to the slot. 3-2
attorney 7:51 Rasmussen tied the game tipping Walman’s shot from the point in and past the goalie. 3-3
Shots: 31-26
Score: 3-3
Overtime:
Walman wins it in Overtime on a penalty shot. Gives plenty of Gritty.
Shots: 31-27
Score: 4-3
