Better chance of getting hit by lightning

“I’ve got a better chance of getting hit by lightning”

If you’re an NHL player you do have a great chance of being hit by a player on the Lightning. If we are talking about an NHL goaltender scoring a goal in an NHL game you still have a greater chance of being hit by a real lightning bolt.

Despite the odds that is exactly what happened last night. Tristan Jarry became just the ninth different goaltender to physically score a goal in the NHL’s history.

Historically, it is an impressive feat. There have been close to 130,000 games played in the NHL and you can see how short the list is. It was a tremendous play by Jarry and came about organically. The Penguins desperately need to win games and Jarry iced this one with an incredibly memorable moment.

Goal aside Jarry stopped 39 out of 41 shots and is settling in this season after an up and down start to his season after signing his much maligned contract extension. He is creeping up the league leaders list.

In another rare as a lightning strike moment we had a Jeff Carter game winning goal. Carter has clearly lost a step and then some, but his goal was huge and much needed.

In the words of Ray Zalinsky “Well, kid, you threw one by me. Savor the flavor, because it sure as hell won't happen again. In the meantime, good luck to ya.”

With the Jarry and Carter goals you can add two more to the list of players who now have more goals than Rickard Rakell this season.

Penguins have a big tilt on Saturday night when they host the Philadelphia Flyers who sit a point ahead of the Penguins in the standings.
