If you watched Detroit’s last tilt against Boston, you may have seen Larkin go awkwardly into the boards after falling onto the ice. The team captain left the game, but eventually came back. The way he hit had me concerned about knee, hip and/or ribs. New York is going to be a tough test and it’s early in the season. That’s part of why I would probably be extra cautious with this decision. Larkin will play through anything he physically can if given clearance. The problem could be a borderline injury being aggravated into something worse.

Fabbri looks ready to return and was on the ice today. That’s not even close to a 1 to 1 swap. Still, with a long flight coming up at the end of the month impact injuries can increase complications from flying (blood clots, the normal strain etc). It’s ultimately up to the office, training staff and coach because we know what Larkin wants to do. He wants to be there for the team.

Beyond that, we still see Detroit dealing with having to outscore 3 goals against on a regular basis. Reimer has the “hot hand”, and gave Detroit a chance to stay in a very tight game against the panthers. Husso is struggling, and Lyon is close to being able to do the 2 week “conditioning stint” in Grand Rapids. Tragic news for Freddy Andersen (potentially career ending) has added to a mix of teams looking for goalies. Vancouver is also said to be “actively” working the phones to boost the team as they feel very good about what they’re seeing. I don’t know if Yzerman has been contacted about anything at this point.

Calgary may well be wheeling and dealing, Pittsburgh has let it be known that they may go ahead and seek the reset button. Cap troubles are hurting multiple teams, and we may well see more deals and/or waiver options sooner in the year. If there’s a chance to bring in a defenseman or center that could help now and into the future it would certainly be worth listening too. Let me know if you have your eyes on anyone.

If Larkin is 50/50, would you put him in tomorrow or wait until the healing process is further along? We’ll find out soon enough.
