Nylander at center, Stamkos or Kane of interest to Detroit?

William Nylander is being used at the center position to start camp. Talks were said to surround him not being willing to take a “discount”, and Matthews new deal may not help with that. It could be worth considering this as an attempt to up his market value by adding center back into his on ice performance. Trade price would be steep, with the best deal to be had likely somewhere around the draft.

If Nylander hits the market and leaves, Toronto wouldn’t be thrilled not to get something (an odd boomerang in of the Tavares situation). At Center, would Nylander fit the team in Detroit? Put your thoughts in the comments section.

Sticking with center, Steven Stamkos made it clear he was not happy that Brisebois has given him the “wait and see” as far as this season goes. While the articles focus on the “discount” Stamkos took with his 89m deal, the reality of Florida’s tax benefit put his take home pay in good stead. Now, would Yzerman talk to the face of his old team? Stamkos wants term and dollars and is already 34. That would put him at 35 for the next deal and those are a different animal. Personally, I’d probably kick the tires on Nylander first.

Finally, Patrick Kane’s name has been brought up as a potential reunion with he and Debrincat could be a boost for Detroit. How many years and what kind of $ it would take to bring this player in. Kane would have to want to see a team in transition after winning 3 cups with Chicago and playing on a stacked (but disappointing) NYR team.

Of the 3, the standout as a mix of talent and age is Nylander. He can skate and score. I don’t know how his game up the middle would work out over a full season, but with plenty of rubber on the tires and a situation where Toronto has to be able to spend more on the blue line there may be some due diligence worth pursuing.
