Another goalie and a veteran center will be on the ice in Traverse City with PTOs in hand.
Artem Anisimov, the 34 year old center will be joined by
Michael Hutchinson as the two look to turn heads, if not by the Detroit staff than potentially with another club.
It would be great to see a high level center come into the mix, but that is probably going to cost some high picks and players if we don’t get growth internally. Copp has to have a better year and there’s not a ton of excitement around Compher. Anisimov spent a year in the KHL before last season where an injury kept him from an extended stay in the NHL. He grabbed 36 points (19 goals, 17 assists) in 55 games.
The net crease seems a bit crowded even factoring in players headed for Grand Rapids. I can’t pretend to know the impetus or what the conversations were like. The hope is that we see battles for spots. Too many years of players feeling “comfortable” had some pretty nasty results before Yzerman started cleaning house. Now he needs to fill it.
