One more move to make before training camp |

We are creeping towards the start of training camp in Pittsburgh. Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Erik Karlsson are in town skating at informal practices.
The Penguins have issued multiple PTO’s to players who will be fighting to fill out the lower depths of the roster. There still remains a player available that will shore up one of their biggest needs in the long regular season and that is depth scoring. Tomas Tatar is still out there. Here is what his projection looks like for the 2023-24 season.
At the price point Tatar is going to come in at the Penguins will not do any better to juice up their offensive depth. Kyle Dubas has done a remarkable job overhauling all of the mistakes the Hextall regime has made. This offseason has gone about as well as anybody could have hoped when Dubas was hired. Yet, there is still feasible room for improvement with a signing like Tatar. Retaining Malkin, Letang, Rust, and Rakell is a sign you’re all in. Trading for Erik Karlsson is the exclamation point on things. A Tatar signing fits the bill for what this team is and what they are trying to do.
With training camps in the very foreseeable future this move is going to be made by someone. Tatar will be in the NHL. The Penguins should take advantage of the price point. They won’t do any better elsewhere.
