Detroit’s expectations, rumors swirl, and watch parties?

Lucas Raymond did a nice breakdown for NHL.com about increased expectations for the team. I am impressed with Raymond’s maturity about how he handles expectation. I really think seeing and talking to Debrincat could be another good opportunity for Raymond to learn new aspects of the position. I’d like to see some of the half wall work that Perron makes look so easy spill over into the winger’s game.

There are rumors aplenty of potential last minute signings. We may be at the point of diminishing return in terms of the ceiling of the team. Detroit is back at a place where they have to establish the ability to get to the post season. Toronto is hangry and Matthews has a new deal that will make things even a bit tighter. Florida looked awfully good getting through the East, and TB still has the pieces to get to the dance. The cap ceiling is making it tougher. Unless there’s just something Yzerman can’t turn down I’m more interested in seeing the kids line up with the vets. If Hanifin turns into a deal they can make work I’d love that, but I don’t know if Yzerman wants to part with the assets required.

So, something interesting happened at the movies. A popular (not my style) musician put a concert into theaters and it blew up the box office. Some of you know that writers have been on strike for 4 months in Hollywood. This has caused movies to be pushed back. Believe it or not, you have to have writers on set to shoot (which stinks because Wolverine and Deadpool looks pretty cool). Movie Theaters need content and live events are being suggested.

Detroit used to do watch parties at one of the casinos where alumni would host and tell stories, etc. If something like that were offered at an AMC for a game is that something you would contemplate? I think live concerts may do better. Cream had done a reunion a few years ago but only for a few shows in England. I may pay to see some groups that I couldn’t get to. Even if they did old footage of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Is there anything in sports or entertainment that would get you through the door if that was available? Let me know where you’re at, what rumors you’re chasing, and how many of you will be streaming the Wings prospect games next week? We’re so close to seeing competitive action. Exciting times ahead.
