How Does Bill Guerin Navigate the Offseason?

This is a big Summer for Bill Guerin as he works his plan with the cap constraint at it's highest point for the next two seasons at just under $14.5M.

The need to incorporate some of the Wild's youth into the lineup is a priority, while working the roster to create cap space.

Some of the obvious names we have discussed in previous blogs, being Alex Goligoski, Jon Merrill, and Calen Addison. None of these contracts really frees up much cap space however it is a start.

Some other names that have been mentioned are Marcus Foligno who will be entering his final year of his contract. Foligno is a key component in the Wild locker room, however his production was so down this year that he was not much more than a fourth line contributor.

Marc-Andre Fleury could be another potential candidate to be moved if he agreed to where he would like to play his final season. Possibly a return to Pittsburgh might work, we will have to see on this one.

Matt Dumba presents an interesting option should he hand pick his destination and Guerin work out a trade there prior to the opening of free agency. That could be an option to at the very least to acquire some asset for the long time Wild defenseman.

Guerin plays his cards close to the vest and that makes it difficult to read what his plan actually is. I am not of the ilk that believes that just making the playoffs in these cash strapped years is a bonus, and I am sure Guerin does not see it that way either.

The Wild roster will look significantly different than the one we saw leave the XCEL Energy Center ice a feww weeks ago, we know that. The big question is just how different and can Guerin work some magic?
