San Jose Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson has been named as a finalist for the Norris Trophy.

Karlsson put together a massive season with the Sharks this season, scoring 25 goals and 101 points in 82 games to lead all NHL defensemen in both categories. He’s won the Norris Trophy twice before, in 2012 and 2015, and was also a finalist in 2016 and 2017.

Given the season he had, it’s hard to argue that Karlsson is the frontrunner right now.

In other news, the Sharks made two minor moves yesterday, signing two undrafted players to entry-level contracts.

The team added goaltender Georgi Romanov and defenseman Valtteri Pulli, signing both players to two-year ELCs. Romanov’s deal carries a $910,000 cap hit, while Pulli’s contract carries a $950,000 cap hit.

Romanov is 23 years old and spent the year in the VHL, Russia’s second-highest professional league. He played 31 games this season, posting a .907 save percentage. Romanov posted even stronger numbers the year before, with a .919 save percentage across 39 VHL games in 2021-22. His stats don't necessarily point to him being a future NHL starter, but goaltending depth never hurts.

Pulli is a 22-year-old left-handed defenseman, who stands at 6-foot-6. This was his first full-time season in Finland’s highest professional league, where he managed 17 points in 53 games.

The signings come a couple weeks after the team signed goaltender Magnus Chrona, forward Ethan Cardwell, and defenseman Artem Guryev to entry-level contracts as well.

Another note regarding a Sharks prospect: Filip Bystedt has been named the SHL's rookie of the year. Bystedt was selected 27th overall by the Sharks last summer and posted seven goals and 20 points in 45 games in Sweden's highest professional league.
