The Hawks are set to take on old time Original Six rival the Detroit Red Wings tonight in Detroit. The Hawks are coming off a massive win against the Ottawa Senators that not only snapped a 4-game losing streak for Chicago but put an end to Ottawa’s 5 game streak. Stalock looked impressive in this one as he stopped all 35 shots, he faced picking up his 2nd career shutout in the process. Another great performance on the night has to go to the newly acquired Anders Bjork who picked up 3 assists on some pretty passing plays. While it is an extremely small sample size so far, I feel like KD has a good grasp on these low-risk high reward type players which should leave all of us fans feeling a little bit better going forward into this rebuild. For at least the next year or two, this is how this team is going to be build and Chicago is almost going to be the land of misfit toys. In a perfect world each one of these pick up turns in to a player that gets us a return like Domi or Lafferty but if these are going to be bodies to take NHL minutes so the prospects can develop in the AHL I see that almost as a big of a win.

While I try not to pay attention to social media when it comes to the Hawks because reading other fanbases comments get me fuming a bit, this past Monday I was scrolling through twitter and could help but roll my eyes are some tweets made by Hawks fans. The most common response to Monday’s game I saw was, “what are you guys doing?”. “Stop Winning”, and my all-time favorite “Congrats you guy just cost yourself Bedard”. The expectations this fan base have now that the tank is on is just laughable. The amount of people who expected this team to not when another game this season is truly mind-blowing. There was zero percent chance this team was dropping the last 20 games this year. Do I wish they would? Of course, especially when a player like Bedard is at play but its just not going to happen. This team is currently in the 31st position in the league with 2 points on the Jackets for last place. The worst thing here is that they still have games in hand on all the teams that are right by them in the standings. Its going to be an interesting battle here with 19 games left but as long as this team finishes bottom two, locking themselves in a top 3 pick I will be happy and If you aren’t happy well then you have to check your expectations a bit.
