I was not expecting Seattle to do much before the trade deadline. I threw out the idea of adding Chychrun as a fun hypothetical but I believed that the team wasn't going to make any big splash. Regardless, I thought they may have at least made some kind of depth move to bolster the roster and show these players that the GM was trying to help them improve.

Instead, Seattle did nothing and the message sent instead was that the GM believed in this group as is. The team has responded with 4 straight victories including an impressive hard fought battle against the Colorado Avalanche, ending with an OT victory.

The goals started with Nathan MacKinnon doing Nathan MacKinnon things and proving why he is one of the best in the league. Though I thought Seattle did a good job at establishing their own presence early, MacKinnon is just on another level and was able to stickhandle through traffic and quickly get a shot past Grubauer.

On Grubauer, the netminder was very good throughout the game and was able to make some really key saves during the times that the Avs pressed hard. Grubs finished with 21 saves on 23 shots and a 0.913SV%. If Grubauer can maintain at least this level of play it will be only good news for the Kraken.

Despite Grubauer being pretty good, Georgiev was great and despite heavily outshooting the Avalanche it looked like a game that Seattle was destined to come up short on. That was until the final three minutes of the game where Jaden Schwartz was able to outmuscle MacKinnon had centre a puck to Brandon Tanev who tied the game. I apologize Brandon for suggesting that the team should trade you prior to the deadline.


There was some good back and forth during the OT period until Vince Dunn fired a great seeing eye pass to Yanni Gourde, giving him a partial breakaway and beating Georgiev clean for the victory.

This was another huge game for the Kraken. The Golden Knights and Kings have both done very well in their past few games and this now 4 game winning streak has kept Seattle right in the mix and still actually competing for the top spot in the Pacific and potentially the top spot in the West.

The only nitpick from the game would once again be the powerplay. This team is so dangerous on all it's lines at creating 5 on 5 scoring opportunities but for some reason they cannot put it all together on the PP. 5 chances for the Kraken in that game and no goals. Seattle fought excellent to tie the game and win in OT but if they were a bit sharper on the man advantage they could have put it away in regulation.

Seattle will face off against the Ducks and Senators before a rare two games at home both against the same team in the Dallas Stars. March is going to be an exciting month for Kraken fans.
