G51: Kraken versus Devils - Do Over

I hate being right. The Seattle Kraken looked a step behind all game against the Islanders and the team never really seemed to feel their way back into the game. Those two points are gone. Now it's time for this team to regroup and look for their first win of the month against a struggling Devils team.

I say struggling not because of their recent record, which is quite good, but because of the tough news that Jack Hughes is now week to week with a lower body injury. It's a tough blow for the Devils for losing their most dominant 5 on 5 player, and the guy who currently ranks third in the NHL in goals. Some of the underlying numbers have not been kind to New Jersey as of late and losing Hughes will likely make those more apparent.

Likely one of Dawson Mercer or Erik Haula will have to step up in his absence which should play better into Seattle's game. Seattle thrives on rolling out line after line and won't need to worry about matching as much with such an elite player out of the lineup.

It was a tough game to gauge the play of Jaycob Megna but overall I liked the little I saw from the defenseman. He made his presence known and made a couple hits. The first goal against just beat Jones clean off a faceoff and had nothing to do with the defense so I wouldn't blame him for that. The second goal against however saw him give up possession and completely turn his back to Horvat who would score. Not great positioning but the game was well lost by that point as well.

After tonight's game the Kraken will be back in action on Friday against the Rangers, likely with their newest acquisition in Tarasenko. As we approach the deadline, teams are going to be tougher to play against with better players being added. It's going to be a battle but it is great regardless that the Kraken are actually a part of that battle this season.
