Crucial Game Tonight: Panthers vs Penguins

The wheels came off for the Panthers at MSG and they found themselves on the losing end of a 6-2 game against the New York Rangers.

Despite the score, the Panthers had opportunities, but they failed to capitalize. What made the difference (in my opinion) was New York’s ability to take away the middle of the ice for a good portion of the game. Florida had no answer for this and struggled to work their way into highly dangerous scoring areas. The Rags forced the Cats to the outside, often disrupting good shooting/passing attempts. The Panthers also stumbled getting enough net-front distribution. The combination of all of this lead to the disappointing 6-2 lose.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a man-advantage for close to 9:30 minutes of a third period like I did last night when Maurice got aggressive and pulled Lyon with that much time remaining. Crazy that the Panthers couldn’t get one or two out of that, but it’s a testament to New York’s scheme.

And so the Cats get ready for perhaps the biggest game of the season for them tonight when they take on the 23-15-8 Pittsburgh Penguins. With Florida trailing Pittsburgh by three points, a win tonight would be huge for the Cats’ playoff hopes.

One thing to make this tilt a bit trickier is that Sam Bennett will be out tonight. After going down with injury and coming back later in the game last night, it appears we probably won’t see him again until this weekend.

Can the Cats beat the Penguins?

Should (better) be a good one!
