Hawks Keep Winning and Game Day: Hawks vs BLues

November 9, 1996, aka the last time the Hawks have won a regular season game in the city of Philadelphia. While that stat is absolutely mind blowing, it was ok by me because at least they were able to win an important game there back in 2010. Like all things in life, everything comes to an end and now the losing streak is officially over as the Hawks were able to take down the Flyers 4-1 this past Thursday. Not only did the Phily streak come to an end, with this victory, the Hawks also ended a 6 game road losing streak which in that span they where out scored 20-3.

After going down 1-0 at the mid point of the first, Petr Mrazek who will be getting a lot of starts while Stalock is in concussion protocol, stepped up and played another great game in net. Turning away 37 of the 38 shots he saw and finishing with a .974 SV%. While he sure has taken a step back in his game over the years and it doesn’t help now that he is on a defensively struggling team. He still goes out there and gives his best effort to keep this team in this game. Hopefully a few more games like this will be a nice confidence booster for him. He has been playing some good hockey as of late, in his last 4 starts, he is 3-1 with a .891 SV% and has a 3.55 GAA, not bad when you consider where this team is currently at.

Speaking of players who have been playing well as of late, it would be insane not to mention the offensive run Seth Jones is currently on. In his last three games he has 7 points (2-5) with those two goals being clutch game tying and game winning goals against Buffalo. Expand the calendar a little bit and he has 10 points in his las 7 games. To have a little bit of perspective, in his previous 26 games, he only had 10 points total. The Seth Jones fan club here is extremely small but even the haters have to agree its great to see him gain the confidence to get in the offensive game plan and take more changes at getting the puck on net. Let’s just hope he starts to find his defensive game and really starts to show he is worth the big ticket he signed a few off seasons ago.

So with that, the Hawks have now won 5 of their last 6 games and have moved up to 31st in the standings. It has been said before and with the recent success of this team I feel like its time for just a nice little reminder, there is still a lot of hockey left to be played. This team is not going to go on a magical run and find themselves in a position that they will not be drafting in the top 3 in my opinion. Just enjoy these wins while they are happening and let the dominos fall they way they are supposed to.
