The Winnipeg Jets had quite a few wild storylines come out of their 4-3 OT win against the Carolina Hurricanes. Whether it be Josh Morrissey, or the team struggling to stay afloat with the Hurricanes 6th player out, it was eventful.

This was originally supposed to be out following the game, but some things have come up that had to be attended to, so I apologize for this being slightly dated!

Pierre-Luc Dubois put on a great performance, burying a breakaway goal and two assists. With 16 points on the season now, Dubois is having one of his best years, and certainly his best as a Jet. I haven't seen much talk about his contract situation, which is good. Silencing the conversations will bring some positivity to the team, which there was a lot of hesitancy about in the summer.

Josh Morrissey has continued his dominant stretch of hockey this season, netting his second and third goals of the season, bringing him to a team-leading 18 points. Morrissey is on pace to obliterate his career-high of 37 points, which he set last season. Morrissey has really taken a huge step over the past year. His defensive game is as steady as ever, and the added offense has been fantastic. Obviously, I don't expect Morrissey to score at over a point-per-game for the entire season, but if he can put up 60+ points, he could get himself into the leagues Norris Trophy conversation, though it is likely that a defender with more points gets the trophy.

Morrissey, who still has five contract years remaining after this year, is looking like a steal at $6.25 million. A lot of people had concerns about whether or not Morrissey is a true #1 defenseman, but like Dubois, his play this season is silencing people on that conversation. Sure, he may not be the best #1 in the league, but he is certainly carrying his weight.

In a more concerning area, the Jets allowed 3 6-on-5 goals against the Hurricanes on Monday. While down 3-0, Rod Brind'Amour pulled Kochetkov, and scored their first goal with 4:48 remaining. The Jets were unable to take that momentum away and the Hurricanes potted two more goals, seeing Aho lead the way with three assists. The Jets defensive game has been much better this year, but that kind of collapse is unacceptable. I am sure Bowness let them know that too.

The Jets are now sitting third in their division, tied with the Colorado Avalanche and two points behind the Dallas Stars for the division lead. While the JEts and Avalanche have the same amount of games play, Dallas has two more. The Jets are still certainly within reach of the top spot. With players like Morrissey, Scheifele and Hellebuyck leading the way, maybe most of us were wrong and this core does have what it takes. With the important pieces like Connor and Dubois playing well, too, the Jets will likely be buyers come the NHL trade-deadline.
