Tuesday night we had more big dogs hit as many teams struggle to find their identity in the early part of the season. As I've stated here for a few weeks now, I only hit small favs or dogs as it's not worth betting big favs right now as they're overpriced. Vegas is setting lines based on last how the top teams did last year so tread lightly.
The last 2 nights' home teams were 8-6 while games went over the total in 9 out of 14 games as we see scoring going up now. Overall, home teams are 95-71 to start the season with games going under the total on the season at 75-67-2.
We have a 13 game card tonight. I will only make a few plays based on great spots for teams while looking at trends/angles and systems.
CAR/TB - This will be the Canes 7th road game vs. just 3 home games, so legs could be an issue. Hedman missed the last game for TB so be careful if you play this game as the Lightning don't have much depth on the blue line. TB have won of 5 of their last 6 games.
VGK/OTT - The Knights have been outstanding to start the year with a 9-2 record. VGK have gone under the total in 8 of their 11 games, with 2 pushes. They are playing a great defensive system. OTT is 4-1 at home vs. 0-4 on the road. VGK -146 is a nice price for a small road fav as OTT can't keep the puck out of their net.
WSH/DET - Caps stink on the road and DET is solid at home. Both teams are inconsistent to start the year. DET being a small home fav has me thinking Vegas knows the public will bet WSH, as this line should be much higher.
BOS/NYR - Streaky NYR have won 3 in a row after losing 4 straight. The Bruins are red hot, going 9-1 to start the season. BOS has TOR on deck, so I worry about a look ahead with a division rival. The fact BOS is +108 but have the best record in the league, makes me think they are begging for Bruins dollars. NYR -130 tells you the side Vegas feels will come out on top due to the juice.
MTL/WPG - The Habs are playing their 4th road game in 8 nights. The Jets are off a a nice road trip claiming 5 of 6 points. Jets -220 is far too high as a fav as the Habs have played solid hockey and won 2 of 3 on this roadie.
NYI/STL - NYI have won 4 in a row while STL has lost 5 in a row. Isles have been rotating home and road games over their last 6 games, so travel can catch up to them here too. STL being a small fav at -120 tells you they're begging for NYI dollars.
SEA/MIN - The Kraken have won 4 games as dogs this year and only one as a fav. The Wild have won 5 of their last 7 and they are back out on the road after this game. MIN -195 is still for high juice to justify betting.
LA/CHI - The Kings are playing 3 in 4 nights on the road. The Hawks have lost 4 in a row after winning 4 in a row with 7 of 10 games going over the total. LA has gone over the total in 8 of 10 games and is a solid road team at 4-3. CHI will probably have their 3rd string goalie in goal tonight.
NSH/CGY - This will be the Flame's 7th of 8 straight at home tonight and they've lost their last 2. The Preds have been awful to start the year since starting the season in Europe.
NJ/EDM - The Devils have won 4 straight and 7 of their last 8 games. The Oilers have won 5 in a row and are a nice small fav at -156.
ANA/VAN - The Canucks aren't worth the juice at -176 and can't seem to figure things out, while the Ducks actually have more wins than VAN.
DAL/AZ - The Stars are a very average road team compared to their home record. DAL has EDM on deck so be careful of the look ahead spot here, while AZ is playing their last home game before a crazy 14 game road trip! DAL -220 has no value but AZ +180 is worth a shot here after they beat FL at home last game out.
FL/SJ - The Sharks are finally playing better hockey after starting their season in Europe. There's no way FL -230 should be happening as a road fav as they are 2-4 on the road. SJ has lost 4 one-goal games too, including the last two at home. SJ +188 is worth a shot.
