The Preds had a tough opening night against the Stars after their success in Prague. There really is not much analysis to put into this game as I am hoping it is a one off. Having played in Prague the previous Saturday, the team looked a step behind the young Stars team. One rough game like this can be chalked up to jet lag and just being a bit tired from the previous games and festivities. Tonight should be a much better outing.

For the small amount of analysis that can go into the previous game, the issues with untimely penalties continue. While I felt that the initial Trenin penalty was weak due to the hard hit he took right before, it was a slash and a correct call by the book nonetheless. The Preds started strong, but, once again, being down a man takes its toll. The first goal by Marchment was top class, but with him starting from a virtual stand still to beating not only Josi but also two other players chasing back was a weak defensive breakdown that should have never happened. That play seemed to set the tone for the rest of the night.

It was game 3 of the season and I'm inclined to write this one off until proven otherwise. Tonight's game will be important to see how the team responds, especially since it is against the same opponent who embarrassed you at home. This will be Dallas's home opener, so we can expect that building to be bumping and the home team seeking to continue their good play. On the positive side, it can be a much worse result than Thursday night. The team knows it was not their best performance, and they will be seeking to turn it around tonight.
