Bill Guerin added some depth down the middle with the signing of Sam Steel to a one year $825K salary.
Steel has played 197 games over parts of the last four seasons with Anaheim. Steel was selected by the Ducks in the first round of the 2016 NHL entry draft #30 overall.
In 68 games last season Steel scored six goals and added 14 assists for 20 points. He played a depth forward role with the Ducks but has some sneaky offensive upside potentially.
Steel was the 2018 Memorial Cup MVP when he led all scorers with 13 points in five games for the Regina Pats. Over his junior career Steel scored 123 goals and added 215 assists in 258 games in the Western Hockey League. He also represented Canada in the 2018 World Juniors scoring 4 goals and 5 assists in 7 games helping Canada to the gold medal.
Low risk addition to the Wild roster adding a player that has played nearly 200 games in the NHL with shot blocking ability and decent in the faceoff circle.
