1) World Junior Championship: Day 2 Recap

Sweden 3 - Switzerland 2 (Group B)

The Junior Crowns overcame a sluggish, penalty-filled first period before going on to defeat Switzerland, 3-2, on Day 2 of the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton. A goal by Daniel Torgersson with 3:05 remaining in the second period sent the Swedes to intermission with a 1-0 lead. In the third period, closely spaced goals by Torgersson and Isak Rosén built a 3-0 lead. However, the Swiss struck back for a pair of goals that shrunk the deficit back to one goal.

Flyers defense prospect Emil Andrae, Sweden's captain, logged 24:58 of ice time. Fellow Flyers defense prospect Brian Zanetti, who lost teeth in the first period when he accidentally clipped himself in the mouth with his own stick, skated 14:25 for the Swiss side.

Canada 5 - Latvia 2 (Group A)

After Latvia was able to go to the first intermission with the score tied at 1-1, Team Canada pulled away with three unanswered goals in the middle stanza on the way to a 5-2 victory. Connor Bedard had a goal and an assist for Canada. Flyers forward prospects Tyson Foerster (14:28 TOI, three shots on goal) and Elliot Desnoyers (10:44 TOI, two shots on goal) did not get on the scoresheet in this game.

Germany 4 - Austria 2 (Group B)

Team Germany prevailed, 4-2, in a penalty-filled preliminary round game on Wednesday. Alexander Blank had a monster game for the German side, racking up a hat trick and an assist put his team in the driver's seat after it was tied at 1-1 entering the second period.
