The New York Islanders signed forward Ruslan Iskhakov to a two-year entry-level contract yesterday, according to CapFriendly. The deal carries a $855,000 cap hit.

The move comes only a week before the Islanders would’ve lost his signing rights.

Iskhakov was selected by the Islanders with the 43rd overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. The 21-year-old has spent the last two years playing professional hockey and scored seven goals and 22 points in 25 games while playing in the DEL this year. He had also posted solid numbers while playing in Finland’s top league in the 2020-21 season.

At just 5-foot-8, Iskhakov is obviously undersized but given that he’s been playing professional hockey for the last two years, there may not be quite as much of an adjustment. We can expect to see him in the AHL next season.
