Doug Wilson announced today that he’s stepping down as general manager of the San Jose Sharks.

Wilson had been the Sharks’ general manager for 19 years, first stepping into the role in 2003. He had taken a leave of absence in late November and the decision to step down comes as a result of wishing to focus on his health and recovery.

Wilson didn’t win a Stanley Cup with the team but he did lead the Sharks to success as a franchise, with 14 playoff appearances in 15 years between 2004 and 2019. Joe Will is set to remain as interim general manager until a replacement is named.
