Sens Gameday! Yes, after 9 days of waiting we finally have a game to look forward to as the Ottawa Senators play in Colorado tonight. All but two players return tonight but that also means many of these players haven't played in a game in over two weeks and now have to adjust to the altitude on top of not being in game shape. The Sens have 4 games in 6 nights on the road and don't look now but Ottawa is officially in last place overall in the NHL standings thanks to the Coyotes winning back-to-back games on the weekend. Here's a look at how they lined up at practice yesterday.
Tkachuk-Norris-Stützle
Paul-Tierney-CBrown
Formenton-Gambrell-Ennis
Sanford-Shaw-Watson
Kelly(extra forward)
Chabot-Thomson
Mete-Zub
Holden-JBrown
Del Zoto(extra D-man)
When looking at the line-up, it's going to be hard for goals to come by with Drake Batherson out for the entire road trip. Outside of the top line, you can see how thin this team is at forward. Colorado will match up pretty easily with the Sens knowing they really only have to shut down one line from scoring. Ottawa will need secondary scoring and some help from the blueline if they plan on getting any points on this road trip. No word on the starting goaltender.
I truly doubt Sens GM Pierre Dorion makes any big trades to help this team out this season, so I thought it would be interesting to look ahead to "some" of the players on this summer's UFA list. Keep in mind any of these players could sign an extension at any point this season. Who would you like Pierre Dorion to target?
Andrew Copp, 27, Center
Claude Giroux, 33, Center/RW
Vincent Trocheck, 28, Center/RW
Nazeem Kadri, 31, Center
Bryan Rust, 29, RW
Tomas Hertl, 28, Center/RW
I will be back after the game tonight with a post-game blog.
Thanks for reading.
