Marc-Andre Fleury was the star of the night as he pitched his first shutout as a Blackhawk to get his team back into the win column. Buoyed by 40 saves, Fleury's brilliance between the pipes along with help from a few friendly posts were all the Hawks needed to defeat the Canucks in a sloppy, shapeless game.

Game Notes

* The Blackhawks ended the 1st period with only 6 shots on goal, didn't hit double digits until more than halfway through the game, and ended with 24 total.

* Riley Stillman sustained a freak injury to his left leg in the opening frame and didn't return; it remains to be seen whether he will miss any time.

* Jake McCabe actually eclipsed Seth Jones with TOI skating 33 seconds more.

* While Jones blocked 5 shots including a huge one in the waning minutes of the game, he also made several clumsy plays underscoring how he's really good when he's on point much of the time but can be really bad when he's not.

* Henrik Borgstrom is quite good at board work using his lanky frame and long reach to pin the opponent, create separation, and generate takeaways of which he had 3 on the night.

Coaching Assignments

The above tweet answers the question inquired by those interested in knowing what responsibilities new assistant coach Rob Cookson has with the Blackhawks. What I find more interesting is that video coach Matt Meacham was overseeing the power play before Cookson's arrival.

Meacham is in his 9th season as Chicago's video coach and was previously in the same role with the Binghamton Senators of the AHL for 6 seasons. A former goalie, Meacham played NCAA Division III then for a brief bit of lower level pro hockey in the UHL and SPHL.
