Hey all, just having a little fun while I gear up for the show. If you haven’t done it yet, each team’s website is doing preseason streams for free (i.e. redwings.com).
Since tomorrow’s game is in Chi-town, you’ll have to go to the Blackhawk’s page. Here, for no one’s enjoyment, is my awful take on “the night before Christmas”. It includes jabs at Chicago’s goal song and Buffalo’s rebuild. Not meant to hurt, just an exercise in fun.
On a September Tuesday, everything felt the same
I’m awaiting the very first preseason game
The summer was long,
There was no vacation
Just blog after blog,
Endless speculation.
But the Wings hit the ice
Tomorrow in Chi-town
And jobs to be taken
With rookies around
We’ll all watch intently
And hope for the best
As the invites and draftees
Try to impress
The night could be brutal,
The game could go long
With play after play of
The world’s worst goal song
But, hey, it’s still hockey
And fans will still show.
Thursday will be better,
Because we play Buffalo.
So don’t get too low
If Hawks drive the score higher.
Hey, this is a rebuild,
not a huge dumpster fire.
No, Stevie’s the best
And his hand is well played
He cleared out the roster
No bad contracts stayed.
With no lotto luck,
No worries or fears.
Detroit won’t be back to square one
In six years.
So, better a 4th and
A couple of 6ths
Than some twos and some ones
That you can’t get to stick.
So heat up the oven
And pour ginger ale
Hockey is back,
And that never gets stale.
On Raymond, Zadina,
Veleno and Bert.
Let’s fill nets with pucks,
Pray no one gets hurt.
So I say in departing
As my readership falls
Merry preseason guys!
And hockey for all!
