Possible RW targets for Ottawa! One major surprise! |

In today’s piece, I wanted to take a look at right wingers that the Ottawa Senators could potentially target. It’s no secret that Ottawa is thin on the right side, especially when they traded Dadonov to Vegas last week. Sens GM Pierre Dorion said in his press conference last week they would spend the money saved on that trade. What until you see the RW target I think nobody is talking about in the NHL these days, due to this certain teams cap issues at the end of my piece!
Naturally everyone out there will say RW Vladimir Tarasenko is to be had. With 2 years left on his deal at 7.5 million per season, the St. Louis Blues would have to retain a good chunk of his salary if Ottawa was to entertain Tarasenko as a possible acquisition.
One other player that has a big ticket but only one year left at 6.8 million this season is Arizona Coyotes winger Phil Kessel. The Coyotes seem to want to stockpile draft picks, Kessel has an 8 team modified no trade list in the final year of his deal.
Another longshot could be Joe Pavelski of the Dallas Stars. He has a modified 3 team no trade list in the final year of his deal that pays 7 million this season. The Stars are over the cap as we speak, but that could change once they figure out their goaltending logjam.
With the Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning almost 6 million over the cap as we speak, could Ondrej Palat be had?! He is in the final year of his deal paying 5.3 million this season but has a NTC. This one to me is the most interesting due to the cap issues the Lightning are going to have as training camp nears.
Two other possible and very affordable targets at RW are Brett Connolly of the Chicago Blackhawks and Conor Sheary of the Washington Capitals. Both teams are loaded at RW and are either over the cap and close to exceeding the cap. Connolly has 2 years left on his deal paying 3.5 million per year. While Sheary has 2 years left at 1.5 million per season. These 2 players make the most sense as they won’t command as much in return for a trade plus are on very affordable deals.
Two other players that Ottawa could target, both are in the final year of their deal are the Avs Valeri Nichushkin making 2.5 million this season and the Preds Rocco Grimaldi making 2 million this year.
Lastly, the one player that seems to be under the radar right now in Vancouver is none other than Brock Boeser. He is in the final year of his deal making 5.875 million. The Canucks have 14 million in cap space but with Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes due huge raises, one has to wonder if there will be enough dollars to go around to keep Boeser in the fold. Can you imagine having two huge power forwards in Boeser and Tkachuk? I know Ottawa would have to give up a lot to get Boeser, but with him set to become a UFA at the end of the season, they wouldn’t be looking at giving up what the Sabres want for Jack Eichel.
I am curious to hear what you all think about the possible targets. Which player makes the most sense and what would it take to acquire the player that interests you most?
Thanks for reading.
