Good morning and happy free agency day!
It feels a little weird doing this at the end of July, but here we are. I will be updating this as things develop throughout the day.
It's been a busy few days in Winnipeg and got busier on Tuesday after the Jets trade for defenseman Nate Schmidt. A third-round pick is going to Vancouver in the deal.
Schmidt has four years left on his current contract with an annual cap hit of $5.9 million.
Schmidt reportedly refused to waive his modified no trade clause for a move to Winnipeg over the weekend, but changed his mind on Tuesday, agreeing to move his NMC.
Now, with a pair of trades to reinforce their blueline, the Jets have already addressed their biggest need, improving their defense with two trades.
Laurent Brossoit to Vegas
After the Jets signed Eric Comrie, likely to be their backup to Connor Hellebuyck, Brossoit is off to Vegas.
Derek Forbort to Boston
Tucker Poolman to Vancouver
No surprise here after the Jets trades to bolster their blueline.
More to come...
