Ray Shero the former Devils and Penguins GM is set to join the Wild front office as senior advisor to the GM, Bill Guerin.

Guerin and Shero are very familiar with each other as Shero first acquired Guerin during his playing days in a trade with the Islanders. He then gave Guerin his first job in management with the Penguins, following his retirement as a player.

Shero is the son of legendary coach, Fred Shero who guided the Philadelphia Flyers to two Stanley Cups in the 70s and later coached the New York Rangers taking them to the Cup finals in 1979. The elder Shero also was the head coach of the IHL, St. Paul Saints in the early 60s.

Being the Philly guy that I am, Freddy "The Fog" Shero, holds a special place in my heart and takes me back to being a kid growing up watching the "Broad Street Bullies" terrorize the rest of the NHL. So seeing his son here in MN brings an extra smile today.

The younger Shero brings a wealth of experience at a critical time in the Wild's transition. They have quite a few key decisions to make in a very short period of time, with the new contracts needed for Kirill Kaprizov, Kevin Fiala, Joel Eriksson Ek, along with the impending Seattle Kraken expansion draft, and the NHL entry draft in which the Eild have five picks in the first three rounds.

Oh and there is the matter at hand with Zach Parise, is there a trade partner out there or is he a candidate for a buyout? The Matt Dumba trade scenario is another issue altogether and also factors into the protection possibilities for the expansion draft.

So to say this off-season is going to be busy is quite the understatement, and having Ray Shero on board to lend his expertise is going to be great.

More to come on the aforementioned scenarios...
