Tonight Connor McDavid will be looking for his 500th point in the NHL. If he does so tonight he will have posted point #500 in his 369th game, the exact same number of games it took for Sidney Crosby. Like Crosby before him, McDavid is a generational player and Oilers fans are so lucky to have the privilege to watch him every night. Odds look high that he will notch it tonight.

For McDavid I'm sure he cares less about number 500 and more about 20; that is, the number of points the Oilers would have if they win tonight. Last game was a high offensive affair with Edmonton unfortunately coming out short in a 6-5 loss, despite outshooting the Jets 45-24.

Mike Smith had a brutal night allowing 4 goals on 11 shots. Mikko Koskinen came in and did not fair much better, allowing 2 goals on 13 shots. The story this season continues to be the fact that the Oilers are not getting the same out of their goalies that almost every other team in the North is.

OILERS LINE COMBINATIONS

RNH – McDavid – Puljujarvi
Ennis – Draisaitl – Yamamoto
Kahun – Khaira – Archibald
Haas– Turris – Chiasson

Nurse – Barrie
Russell – Larsson
Koekkoek – Bouchard

Smith

I don't know what Caleb Jones has to do to get into the lineup. Lagesson is out and Bear is not yet ready and Tippett is opting for both Russell and Koekkoek to be in the lineup over Jones, something I vehemently disagree with. Jones is a far superior puck mover and possession player compared to either Russell or Koekkoek. He needs to get into some games again soon.

Copp – Scheifele – Wheeler
Connor – Statsny – Ehlers
Perreault – Lowry – Appleton
Vesalainen – Harkins – Lewis

Poolman – Morrissey
Forbort – Pionk
Beaulieu – Demelo

Hellebuyck

Pierre Luc Dubois is still unavailable for the Jets

4 THINGS TO WATCH FOR

1.) Some Saves: Mike Smith had a brutal night and as much as the 72 year old netminder struggles, he has shown in the past to bounce back after poor performances. The Oilers need him to be sharp because this Jets team can score goals.

2.) A Top 6 Swap -
The top six has not been producing much over the last couple of weeks and tonight it looks like Tyler Ennis will get a shot over Kahun on the Draisaitl line. RNH potted a couple but McDavid and Draisaitl remain in a funk (by their standards). Bring back DRY.

3.) Copp Out: Andrew Copp has been having a break out season and fitting in great in the top six this year. The Connor Stastny and Ehlers line has been dominant but Copp is the player to watch for the Jets tonight in my opinion.

4.) PK Effort: One of the big reasons why Tippett seems hesitant to play Jones is that he doesn't like him on the PK. IF oyu're going to play Koekkoek and Russell because of that fact they better go perfect on the PK tonight.
