Good afternoon and a happy Monday to you all.

Today we will tackle the Toronto Maple Leafs and I am joined by reader aries1976 who has provided the expansion list.

TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS PROTECTION LIST

FORWARDS

Auston Matthews - C
John Tavares (NMC) - C
Mitch Marner - RW
William Nylander - RW
Alex Kerfoot - C
Pierre Engvall - LW
Joey Anderson - RW

DEFENSE

Jake Muzzin
TJ Brodie
Morgan Rielly

GOALIE

Jack Campbell

The Leafs have far too many guys on a 1 year deals, so it makes this protection list pretty easy... I can see the Leafs acquiring someone and leaving Engvall unprotected

Notables unprotected, Holl, Dermott, Hutchinson and not much else

---

Appreciate the list! Here are a few players of note.

Zach Hyman: Hyman is currently set to be a UFA at the end of this season but if the Leafs do not protect him, Seattle may do well to try and jump in on the 28 year old winger. 21 goals in 71 games in 18/19 followed by another 21 goal season in 20 fewer games in 19/20. May not carry a line on his own but has proven to be an excellent complimentary winger.

Justin Holl: The big 6'4 defender has registered 21 points in a total of 81 NHL career games. Averaged just over 18 minutes a game last season for the Leafs and can be a solid third pairing player.

Travis Dermott: The 23 year old left shot defenceman was selected in the second round in 2015 by the Leafs. He is a mobile player who plays an effective game in both zones.

SEATTLE SELECTS.....

Travis Dermott

The young defenceman would make an excellent addition to the Kraken's roster and could even move quickly into a top four role. His skating continues to improve and he has all the tools that are wanted out of a modern day defenseman. He makes an excellent first pass out of the zone and on top of that he has shown in the AHL that he can play on the left or right side.
