Jarome Iginla is heading to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
This afternoon it was announced the HHOF selection committee selected Iginla as a first ballot member of this year’s class. Deservedly so.
The 42-year-old Calgary Flames legend had a remarkable career by every stretch of the imagination.
Iginla appeared in 1554 regular season games and put up some mind boggling numbers, scoring 625 goals and tallying 1300 points. He was as consistent as anybody, once scoring at least 30 goals 11 seasons in a row.
Regardless of who Iginla’s linemates were, or the quality of the team around him, he produced night in night out, year in year out.
Iginla picked up a *ton* of hardware along the way.
He won the Art Ross Trophy. He won the Rocket Richard (twice). He won the Lester B. Pearson. He won the World Cup. He won gold at the World Juniors and Olympics (twice). Really, he won everything there is to win beyond a Stanley Cup – which certainly shouldn’t be used against him.
Iginla had a truly unique skill set that allowed him to dominate games with both skill and force. He was one of a kind and it’s great to see him being recognized for as much.
