Ek's note: Wesley comes to HockeyBuzz with a high knowledge of all things Winnipeg Jets. Having been born and raised in the frozen capital of Manitoba, and watching his beloved team since as long as he can remember, his passion, as well as his understanding of the team is almost instinctive. This, coupled with his creative passion for writing, which began as a young man writing screen plays, evolved into a teaching occupation abroad, and has led to sports blogging for various websites.

Of course, there was that 11 years wandering in the desert between the Jets and Jets 2.0. Initially, deciding to follow the Edmonton Oilers, sympathizing with his fellow frozen countrymen. Then after relocating to Vancouver, it was the Canucks who became his team to dissect. After suffering through the Canucks ill-fated 2011 Stanley Cup run, he was able to find solace, not quite the team he grew up with but his team nonetheless, in the return of the Jets to Winnipeg.

Having viewed the game from these various angles has aided in giving him a subjective viewpoint, and his hope now is to add this nuanced view to the spectrum of talent already present here at HockeyBuzz. Welcome Wesley.

Not taking a day off, the Jets spent time with occupants of the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg yesterday. It was a heartwarming affair, and one that was appreciated on all sides. Well done boys!

When it came to the media scrums post practise, much of the focus was still on Nik Ehlers half insane undertaking of fighting opposing NHL captains with 50 lbs on him. First Jamie Benn in Dallas, and then Ryan Getzlaf in Anaheim. After joking that he had “sent him out” on Sunday, Maurice assured us that “nobody messed with him in practise today.” Coach Maurice has got to be one of the wryest quotes in the league, and I for one, cannot get enough of it.

Not to be outdone, Laine with his trademark barbs concluded, “He’s an animal. Those Danish guys are crazy”, then pressed for the feeling on the bench, he described the team as being “scared for him.” The Red Wings haven’t appointed a captain since Henrik Zetterberg left, so I guess they’ll be safe from the crazy Dane.

Almost lost in all the Ehlers madness Sunday, was Mark Scheifele recording his 400th point, and becoming the second fastest in Jets/Thrashers history to do it behind only Ilya Kovalchuk. Well done Scheife!

As assumed, Laurent Brossoit gets the start tonight, so Connor Hellebuyck can play in front of his family and friends in his home state of Michigan on Thursday. Brossoit hasn’t quite had the start to the season he was hoping for with a .885% save percentage, and goals against average of 3.65. That being said, he’s still managed to win half of his games, going 3 and 3 to this point.

Things have not been running very smoothly in Motor City with a 0-9-1 record over their last 10 games. Considering that streak it’s no surprise that they find themselves at the bottom of the league with just 17 points. Even more concerning, their goal differential is -58, a league worst by 23 goals, looking up to the fledging New Jersey Devils. You could say that this is a winnable game.

If there is some good news for the Wings, it’s that Justin Abdelkader and Trevor Daley appear ready to go, however they will remain without the services of two of their best offensive threats in Anthony Mantha and Andreas Anthansiou.

And surprise, surprise! Look who's starting for the Detroit Red Wings. None other than Winnipeg Jets 2013 2nd round pick Eric Comrie. This is going to be an interesting one for him no doubt. Who's hoping he gets a shellacking?

What looks to be an easy 2 points for the Jets against the NHL’s worst team should not be viewed as one as they’ve already dropped 2 to the Western Conference basement dwelling LA Kings. Puck drop is at 8:00 ET. Go Jets Go!
