Rookies Game: Flyers vs. Islanders

The 2019 Flyers Rookie Camp culminates on Wednesday with the annual Rookies Game against the New York Islanders rookies. This year's game will be held at the PPL Center in Allentown, home of the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Game time is 7:00 p.m. EDT. The game will be televised in the Philadelphia area on NBCSP+ and in the Lehigh Valley on Service Electric.

The Flyers are holding a morning skate on Wednesday at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. It is likely that Phantoms head coach Scott Gordon, who will be behind the bench for the Rookies Game and who has been running the drills throughout Rookie Camp, will go with the same lines that have been featured during camp.

Felix Sandström and Kirill Ustimenko will share goaltending duties for the Flyers side in the Rookies Game. Roddy Ross is available as a third goaltender.

Third-year pro defenseman Mark Friedman, who underwent off-season minor abdominal surgery, skated with the Rookie Camp group on Tuesday but will not play in Wednesday's game. He is fine to begin NHL camp with the rest of the team on Friday.

The Flyers Rookie roster is highlighted by the three top forward prospects in the farm system, who will skate together as a line (Morgan Frost centering Isaac Ratcliffe on left wing and Joel Farabee on the right), as well as third-year pro defenseman Philippe Myers. Myers will be paired on defense with Calgary Hitmen defenseman Egor Zamula, a free agent signee last September who has looked good in drills on all three days of practice.

Other notable players on the Flyers side: 2016 first-round pick German Rubtsov, third-year pro forward Mikhail Vorobyev (who began last season in the NHL with the Flyers), second-year center Connor Bunnaman and second-year winger David Kase. Defenseman Mason Millman, a 2019 fourth-round pick, has been the biggest blueline standout in drills beyond the work of the top pair of Myers and Zamula.

The Islanders Rookie roster includes several first-round picks as well as young players whom Phantoms fans may be familiar with as members of the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The most notable names on the roster include sniping forwards Kieffer Bellows and Oliver Wahlstrom (Farabee's frequent linemate on the USNTDP), 2019 first-round selection Simon Holmström, as well as top blueline prospects Noah Dobson (12th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft) and Bode Wilde. Also on hand is 2019 second-round pick Samuel Bolduc.

The goaltenders available for the Islanders are Swedish netminder Linus Söderström, Czech goalie Jakub Skarek and ECHL netminder Evan Buitenhuis.

Line combinations for the Islanders will be posted later in the day if available. Projected Flyers combos are posted below, and will be adjusted as needed after the morning skate.
