The Hurricanes are very deep in young defensemen and they just got deeper by signing Quinnipiac's Chase Priskie. Many teams -- the Islanders, Sabres, Canadiens, Flyers and Canucks among others -- were after Priskie.

A 5-foot-11 defender, Priskie scored 17 goals and 39 points in 36 games for Quinnipiac last season. Priskie was also ECAC Hockey First Team and was a top ten finalist for the Hobey Baker. Priskie totaled 35 goals and 112 points in 146 games over a four-year collegiate career with the Bobcats.

This signing could open up Don Waddell to be more easily amenable to trading Justin Faulk or Dougie Hamilton.
