Quick Hits: September 20, 2023

1) Today is Media Day at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees. In addition to the usual pre-camp medicals for the players, Media Day is when players have photos (head shots, publicity photos in full uniform) and video filmed for television broadcast purposes. Tomorrow, on the official first on-ice day of NHL training camp, the Flyers will conduct skating tests for all players. Thursday's schedule is as follow:

8:30 a.m. Group 1 (Flyers Rink)
9:30 a.m. Group 2 (Phantoms Rink)
10:30 a.m. Grouo 3 Practice (Flyers Rink)

The full training camp schedule is available here.

2) There will officially be 57 players on the roster -- 30 forwards, 21 defensemen and six goaltenders -- at the start of training camp. This includes injured prospects J.R. Avon and Matteo Mann. For the full roster, click here.

3) Yesterday, Flyers general manager Danny Briere held a 20-plus minute press conference to wrap up Rookie Camp, discuss the upcoming NHL training camp and expectations for the 2023-24 regular season. Video is embedded below. An article on the key takeaways from the press conference will be posted today on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com.

4) The Flyers announced their 2023-24 promotional schedule. Two key events of note:

* Ed Snider Night (Jan. 6): The Flyers will pay tribute and celebrate the legacy of the late Flyers co-founder and longtime chairman Ed Snider and will highlight his dedication and contributions to the franchise and Philadelphia community. There will be many nuances and surprises incorporated into the event. The Flyers will host the Calgary Flames.

* Hall of Fame Weekend (Jan 26-27): This will consist of an Alumni Game, a 50-year celebration and reunion of the Flyers Stanley Cup winning teams and the January 27 induction of Mark Recchi into the Flyers Hall of Fame. Prior to the Jan. 27 game against Boston, the Flyers will honor Recchi with a special pregame ceremony, including the raising of an updated Hall of Fame banner to commemorate Recchi becoming the 28th member of the team's HOF.

5) Sept 20 Flyers Alumni birthdays: Sergei Bobrovsky (1988), Ryan Hartman (1994), Jan Hlavac (1976).
