The Ottawa Senators have been busy to start the offseason with short term contract extensions to forward Fabian Zetterlund and defenseman Lassi Thomson.
Zetterlund Short Term Extension
The new three year contract carries an annual average value of $4.275 million through 2028.
Zetterlund was acquired at the tail end of the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline with forward Tristin Robins a fourth round pick from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for forwards Noah Gregor and Zach Ostaphuck with a second round pick.
The Swedish winger is nearing his prime and had 19 goals and 41 points this season split between San Jose and Ottawa. Could be anywhere on this club’s top nine.
Thomson League Minimum
Thomson signed a one year two way extension bringing the first rounder back to the NHL. After being bounced off the waiver wire to Anaheim and back to Ottawa, he spent this season in Europe.
Both moves are small victories for the club as retraining their guys could lead to more, but they could also jump up in the lineup too.
After this, the Finnish blueliner becomes eligible for Group-6 unrestricted free agency for 2026.
