The Calgary Flames agreed to seven more seasons with power sniper Matthew Coronato on Saturday. The deal amounts to $45,500,000 over seven years with an annual average value of $6,500,000 and buys two seasons of UFA eligibility.

Before turning 23, Coronato has a 24-goal, 23-assist season under his belt and projects to reach higher offensive totals as he continues to develop his game.

The 13th overall pick in 2021 projects to become the third-highest paid Calgary Flame in 2025-2026. Only Jonathan Huberdeau ($10.5M annual average value) and Nazem Kadri ($7M) have higher cap hits heading into next season.

Coronato finished the season tied for third on the Flames in scoring with MacKenzie Weegar with 47 points; reaching those totals primarily on a line with the more offensively conservative Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman. A fourth-ranked 191:23 of powerplay deployment and 17 points over that time offered encouragement for fans that they have found a 5v4 trigger man as they venture into this new era of Flames hockey.

Apologies for keeping this one short. Some very strange server stuff going on at Hockey Buzz—once we get it sorted out, I can go back to long-form analysis.

Cheers everyone and, as always, give me a follow on X if you want more odd stats, trends and hills that I choose to die on.
