Weekend Round Up & Marner Rumor

The Calder Cup playoffs are the highlight of the weekend for the Columbus Blue Jackets’ organization as the Cleveland Monsters advance to the AHL North Division finals against the Syracuse Crunch.

The AHL rematch of the 2019 playoffs of the Blue Jackets and Lightning organizations. Winner of the series will compete in the Eastern Conference Finals in the winner of Hershey v Hartford.

The Cleveland Monsters defeated the Belleville Senators in Game 4 of the Division Semifinals by the final score of 3-1. The playoff series was also 3-1 in the games won/loss.

Period I

Marcus Bjork opened the scoring 99 seconds into the game with his first of the postseason from Trey Fix-Wolansky and Billy Sweezy.

Stephen Halliday continued his hot run for the Sens with his second of the playoffs. His tie making goal was assisted by Jacob Larsson and Egor Solokov.

Period II

Owen Sillinger got the eventual game winning goal for his second of the playoffs with the helpers to Mikael Pyyhita and Bjork.

Period III

Justin Pearson got his first goal of the playoffs with three seconds left in regulation with the apple going to Stefan Matteau.

Goaltenders

Leevi Merilainen allowed 2 goals 29 shots against.

Jet Greaves had 32 saves on 33 shots faced.

Players to Watch

Egor Solokov had a goal and two assists. He had one assist in round one against Toronto

David Jiricek had his first career AHL playoff goal and two assists.

On the Worlds

Johnny Gaudreau and Zach Werenski are producing for the States despite losing Lyon to injury. Ohio native Alex Nedjelkovic is in a tandem role.

Elvis is holding his own.

Canada and Damon Severson is dominating with Bedard.

Blue Jackets’ legend Lukas Sedlak is involved.

On Howson

The former Blue Jackets’ general manager got a multi-year extension with the AHL as the commissioner.

D Samuel Johannesson

For Blue Jackets’ draft pick Samuel Johannesson has signed the Blues to an ELC.

Gaudreau for Marner?

Oh Internet. I don’t see this. Sure if saves the Jackets the money short term but long term it will be costly. Might as well trade Laine. Don’t like either concept.
